The History of Greenall's
Handcrafted by England’s oldest gin distillery, Greenall’s Gin remains true to our founder’s vision to create the first quality crafted gin. Greenall’s has been proudly distilled for over 260 years through the craftsmanship of seven generations of master distillers.
1761
THE JOURNEY BEGINS
Greenall’s founder Thomas Dakin began distilling his original gin, at the age of 25, and founded what would become the oldest gin distillery in England.
1860
G&J GREENALL’S WAS BORN
The Dakin family leased their distillery to Gilbert and John Greenall and was purchased by them ten years later.
1960
DEMAND FOR GIN ACCELERATES
Due to an increase in gin’s popularity, the distillery moved to a larger site opposite the Greenall’s Brewery. The following decades saw tremendous growth in the company.
2005
G&J GREENALL’S DISTILLERY DESTROYED BY FIRE
A new home for the team and the distillery opened in 2008 at the Birchwood site where Greenall’s is still produced today.
2011
QUINTESSENTIAL BRANDS GROUP IS FOUNDED
G&J Greenall’s becomes part of the international drinks group called Quintessential Brands.
2012 - TODAY
GREENALL’S CONTINUES TO DRIVE GROWTH
G&J Distillers wins the International Spirits Challenge “Gin producer of the year” 4 out of the past 5 years.
Greenall’s Gin continues to drive double digit growth year-on-year and performs ahead of the total category globally.
